3 ways to make networking easier [Issue 37]

In this issue, I'm going to share 3 simple tips that will help you integrate networking into your daily life.

1. Habit stack

In Atomic Habits, James Clear says...

You probably have very strong habits and connections that you take for granted each day. For example, your brain is probably very efficient at remembering to take a shower each morning or to brew your morning cup of coffee or to open the blinds when the sun rises … or thousands of other daily habits. You can take advantage of these strong connections to build new habits.

One of the best ways to build a new habit is to identify a current habit you already do each day and then stack your new behavior on top.

Rather than pairing your new habit with a particular time and location, you pair it with a current habit.

Some examples of how you could habit stack networking into your life:

  1. For each cup of coffee you pour → Send a DM to a peer

  2. Every time you open LinkedIn → Comment on a post

  3. Send a DM to someone new before → Turning on Netflix

2. Message a friend when you think of them

I got this tip from my friend and it's a good one.

When someone pops in your head, shoot them a text or a DM. Let them know you where thinking of them or just ask how they're doing.

These soft connections are a great way to stay in touch and it's not as time consuming as setting up a video chat or coffee shop hang.

3. Tequila
