Rule of 100... to get out of your rut [Issue 034]

Chances are high that you have not taken action on most of what you've learned when it comes to freelancing.

I like the sentiment behind Alex Hormozi's Rule of 100. Pick one primary action, do 100 of them per day for 100 days, and the results will follow.

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Identify your primary struggle.

Step 2: Identify a primary action that could alleviate that struggle.

Step 3: Do 100 of that action every day for 100 days.

Here are a couple of examples:

If you have a good portfolio but haven't had any work in months:

  • Spend 100 minutes each day reaching out to peers, studios, and creative directors.

  • Do this every day for 100 days.

  • This is a numbers game that you have control over.

If you get hired for crappy work and your portfolio isn't full of the kind of work you want to get hired for:

  • Give yourself 100 minutes a day to design, animate, and share your work.

  • Do this every day for 100 days.

  • Your skills will increase, and people will notice.

The problems most of us fall into are:

  1. We don't get clear on the biggest problem we need to fix next.

  2. We aren't persistent or consistent enough to see the solution through to get the result.

Think about it. There are over 3,000 people who get this newsletter. Of those 3,000, 1,860 will open the email, 900 will read the whole email, and how many do you think will do all of this… put in the time to figure out their primary struggle, determine a primary action to attack that struggle, and THEN stick to 100 actions per day for 100 days?

Your guess is as good as mine, and I think we can agree that it's going to be a very small number.

Be the small percentage. There's less competition at the top.
