From Boring to Booyah: Spice Up Your Brand Positioning [Issue 031]

Are you tired of being just another motion designer in the industry?

Well, it's time to spice things up and position yourself in a way that makes you stand out from the crowd!

Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Determine your "special sauce" What sets you apart from everyone else? Are you a whiz at character animation, 3D modeling, or perhaps you have a killer sense of humor? Identify what makes you unique and build your positioning around that.

  • Be a jack-of-all-trades Or at least act like one! Clients love someone who can handle multiple aspects of a project. So, if you have a variety of skills, highlight them and show off your versatility. In a volatile market, generalists seem to have an advantage.

  • Choose who you want to serve and how Do you want to be a solo freelancer for studios or operate as a studio and service clients directly? If direct to client, what kind of clients? How will they know you're the perfect person for them. Figure out how you operate best and incorporate that into your positioning.

  • Embrace the cheese Embrace it. Cheesy taglines, puns, and dad jokes can make your brand memorable and even endearing. Just make sure it fits with your overall image.

  • Why so serious? Do you excel at elevated, sophisticated design? Perhaps, you should embrace your serious side.

  • Make it clear Don't beat around the bush. Make it crystal clear to potential clients what you can offer and why they should choose you over the competition.

Remember, positioning takes time and effort, but it's worth it in the end. And the way you position yourself today doesn't have to be the way you position yourself in the future. This isn't a permanent decision.

So, be a decisive decision maker, get creative, take some risks, and make your mark in the industry!
